Wow! The Vampire Diaries Going To An End, So The CW Is Giving Us The Lost Boys

During San Diego Comic-Con in July, The Vampire Diaries showrunner Julie Plec announced that this upcoming season will be the series’ last. Thankfully, The CW is helping fill the vampire void by rebooting a 1980s horror classic.
Per Deadline, the network will adapt Joel Schumacher’s 1987 cult classic The Lost Boys for the small screen. The iconic film gave us the “Two Coreys” — Corey Feldman and the late Corey Haim — playing vampire hunters who try to save Haim’s movie brother Michael (Jason Patric) from a horde of bloodsuckers led by David (Kiefer Sutherland).

The series, which has no premiere date yet, will be written by Rob Thomas of iZombie and Veronica Mars fame, with plans for it to span seven seasons (!) and be an anthology series, à la American Horror Story. Deadline reports how “the series will tell a story spanning 70 years, each season chronicling a decade,” with Season 1 focusing on San Francisco’s 1967 Summer of Love. Only the Lost Boys, a.k.a. the vampires, will remain constant throughout the seasons, since they never age. Good deal for them.
